In this, my first blog-post, I would like to introduce myself and explain why Ireland - my country of residence - is my passion, and why I consider the island of Ireland, north and south, as "My Island".
My name is Stíofán UaÉirinn, which should be pronounced as Stephen O'Erin.
Stíofán is derived from Greek Στέφανος (Stéphanos), a first name from the Greek word στέφανος (stéphanos), meaning "wreath, crown" and by extension "reward, honor, renown, fame", from the verb στέφειν (stéphein), "to encircle, to wreathe".
UaÉirinn means Descendant of Ireland.
I have a namesake in a famous movie, and use his picture as my profile picture.
He is famous for stating about the island of Ireland: "It's mine!"
Here's a clip of that.
Of course that famous movie is called "Braveheart".
The island of Ireland has been stolen, and occupied for many ages, by people with bad intend. The Irish people have been persecuted for hundreds of years.
I long for the moment justice will be done to my island.
I hope to share some of the beauty of the people, the land, the culture, the music, and more, of my island.
