You might have wondered why this website, being a news and opinion blog-site, which presents itself as a News Agency, has the name "The Watchman".
This I would like to explain in this blog.
When, in 2020, I came across problems in presenting the kind of information that I am sharing on this website, on another website I owned, the decision to go separate was a logical one. And later on, the other website was integrated in to this one, because that was less problematic and there was no reason to continue that one as a separate one.
This other one, called Netseriym, which is the transliteration of the Hebrew word that means Branches, was started as an endeavour to start a web-based community of Called-out Believers in Yahusha HaMashiach, Who is generally revered to as Jesus Christ, because I had noticed the absence of such a community.
That name was based on the statement Yahusha has done, and was recorded in Yahuchanon (John) 15:5, which is: "I am the Vine, ye are the Netseriym (Branches); he that abides in Me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without Me ye can do nothing."
In my studies of the Sacred Scriptures - the written Word of Yahuah, Who is generally referred to as The LORD - many of which have been collected in the book called The Bible, I had come across the call to watch, to keep watch, watching, and so forth.
In ancient times watchmen would have kept watch, for instance over a city or a vineyard, watching for and warning of approaching danger.
They would have done that from watchtowers. For instance as shown to the right, which is one still in use these days in the hill country of central Israel.
In other situations, people were called to be a watchman in spiritual sense. As was Yechezq'el - who is generally referred to as Ezekiel - who was called by Yahuah to be a watchman unto the house of Yashar'el (Israel), to give these people warning from Him. (See Ezekiel 3:17)
Somewhere else I read "Except Yahuah guard the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." (See Psalm 127:1)
The prophet Yesha'yahu, who is generally refered to as Isaiah, was told to set a watchman and let him declare what he saw. (See Isaiah 21:6)
In those ancient times it was common practice to keep watch, to guard from danger. But in less ancient times it was not different. To the right you see the famous painting by the Dutch painter Rembrandt van Rijn, called "De Nachtwacht", which means "The Night watch".
And even in our modern times, we use night-guards to protect buildings from burglars, who might want to steal possessions out of them.
The Police-forces from some countries are called Guards too.
We are called to be on the watch, especially in these last days before the return of Yahusha as King to earth, as I have shown in another blog. He Himself called us to this. See Luqas (Luke) 21:28-36. Verse 36 says "Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of A'dam."
This call to watch, and my desire to be on the watch for the coming of our King and warn other people of it, are the background of the name of this website.
I was not called and appointed to be a watchman in the spiritual sense like Yechezq'el was, but felt this internal urge, resulting from the call by Yahusha to watch, combined with the ancient calling to watch for danger and give warning to other people.
Since I started this website last year, much - very much - has happened. Much is happening. And much more will come to happen.
So, I would like to call you to be on the watch too!
We are living in exiting times.
There is much deception, just as Yahusha said there would be.
It seems that the prophesied Strong Delusion has come.
So, do not fall for it. Do not believe the lies.
WATCH AND PRAY, TO BE FOUND WORTHY TO ESCAPE AND STAND BEFORE THE KING!
